India as Corrupt Country - Perception of Common Man

Perception and Reality

Dear B N Gururaj,
I am happy to see that my article prompted you to write a beautiful article, which shows the perception of a common man. I am not saying for a moment that India is not corrupt and that we should not fight to remove corruption. What I said was that India is doing quite well on the front of corruption, despite its economic state. I have also tried to establish that there is a direct correlation between honesty and economic development pf country as not a single 'developing or poor country' has ever figured in most honest country. And we can't become developed overnight or in few years.
When I posted this article and dared to say that Indians have great value, people can't believe it as we have developed the habit of seeing more of our negatives than the positives. While our news channels are filled with the news of crime and corruption giving the impression that India is most criminalized country of the world, the fact is that India is a country with least crime. I am not saying this because I am Indian, but because that is the fact.

When we compare total crimes rate per 1000 people in different countries, we find that all top countries are only developed countries. For example the Iceland has 209.52 crimes per 1000 people followed by Sweden (138.35), Dominica ( 112.55) , United Kingdom (109.96) and New Zealand (108.2). The crime rates of these developed countries including USA with (41.29) is quite high as compared to India (1.64). Source: http://www.nationmaster.com/country-info/stats/Crime/Total-crimes-per-1000

Let us open our eyes and see the facts without being emotional either to take undue pride or to be unduly ashamed. The greatest need is to trust ourselves and start respecting ourselves for what we are. Let us remember that unless we learn to respect ourselves, no one else will do it ever.
With best compliment
Awdhesh
